My Bank Of America Credit Card

Background. Bank of America began issuing free FICO scores to select cardholders in late 2015, with plans to increase distribution by the end of the first quarter of 2016 (March 31, 2016).

Using Somebody Else’s Debit Or Credit Card—legal Issues

How to earn points. You can find your free FICO score on your online account. Free FICO is not currently available on the mobile apps or mobile website.

After logging into your BofA.com account, you must first register by going to the Tools and Investments tab and clicking on the Learn More About Credit Scores button. Then click the “Register Now” button and accept the terms of the free FICO program.

You can view up to 12 months of FICO® Online Banking Score history for each month from enrollment and up to 12 months after enrollment. After 12 months, the history display will restart. In addition, you will see two primary factors that affect your final FICO® score, except in limited circumstances where TransUnion does not provide us with both primary factors. Customers with newly opened credit card accounts will not be able to see their first FICO® score in Internet Banking until 60 days after enrollment. In some cases, TransUnion may not have a FICO® score for a variety of reasons, such as: having a limited credit history. We reserve the right to terminate your participation in the FICO® Score program if you or we close your Bank of America consumer credit card account. You can cancel your registration at any time by going to the “Instruments and Investments” tab in Internet Banking.

It competes with Chase Sapphire Reserve, Amex Platinum, Citi Prestige, US Bank Altitude Reserve and more in the $450 / $550 space. there were rumors that he would compete. But… Either the rumors were false, or Bank of America changed course. road. The new and creatively named Premium Rewards Credit Card costs just $95 per year.

For complete details about the Bank of America Premium Rewards card, including approval tips, see the Bank of America Premium Rewards Credit Card Guide.

This new $95-a-year card looks like the $95-a-year Chase Sapphire Preferred. Like the Sapphire Preferred, the Premium Rewards card offers 2 points per dollar on travel and dining. And it beats the Sapphire Preferred by offering 1.5 points per dollar elsewhere (Sapphire Preferred only earns 1 point per dollar elsewhere).

That is to say, the meaning of “points” here is completely different. At Bank of America, one point is worth a penny in cash.

. Yes, you can use points to pay for travel or gift cards, but you still get 1 cent per point value. It’s best to redeem points for cash back and then earn more points by paying for travel and other things with your card. At Chase, on the other hand, points can be worth a lot more than a penny each, as they can be transferred 1-to-1 to airline and hotel programs (see Chase Transfer Partners). Alternatively, points can be used to purchase travel through Ultimate Rewards Travel at a cost of 1.25 cents per point.

Since the BOA Premium Rewards Card points are only pennies, I think it’s fair to compare this card to best-in-class cashback cards like the Citi Double Cash,  USAA Limitless Cashback Rewards, and the Alliant Cashback Visa Signature Card. Compared to these cards, it doesn’t look good at first glance:

As you can see above, you can get more cash back for a lower annual fee with several other cards. In addition, the Premium Rewards card offers some premium features:

Card with no annual fee (you pay $95 but get $100 in credit). However, unless he earns a higher cashback rate than other no-fee cards, there’s no need to bother with this card (after securing the 50,000-point sign-up bonus, of course!).

Fortunately, for those lucky enough to have $100,000 in savings, this card will be extra special after throwing in some of Bank of America’s select rewards…

Preferred Rewards is Bank of America’s exclusive consumer elite program. Benefits vary based on the total amount of money you have on deposit and/or invested with Bank of America, Merrill Lynch or Merrill Edge. Customers must have a 3-month average cumulative balance of the following amounts for each elite level:

While other cards offer better returns on travel and dining, 2.625% cash back is a pretty high return on spending.

How Do I Link My Bank And Credit Card Accounts?

I think many readers probably have $100,000 in retirement accounts. If you have an IRA or something similar, you can simply transfer funds management to Merrill Edge. Here’s a page from Merrill Edge that describes how. I understand that this transfer will not change the value of your investments in any way. Nice bonus: Merrill gets $250 if you transfer $100K or $600 if you transfer $200K.

But… you might want to wait! Late last year (2016) Merrill offered an even bigger bonus: $500 for $100K and $1,000 for $200K. Of course, if we hear about such a new bonus, we will post the details.

Bank of America also offers a free Travel Rewards card that earns 1.5 points per dollar everywhere (details here ). With Preferred Rewards Platinum Honors status, this card earns 2,625 points per dollar on all spending. The main difference is that this card doesn’t earn extra points for travel and dining, while Travel Rewards points must be used to redeem travel or cost less than a penny each.

While the Travel Rewards card has priority with no annual fee, the Premium Rewards card offers easy-to-redeem points.

When Were Credit Cards Invented: The History Of Credit Cards

The new Premium Rewards card offers a nice and easy sign-up bonus of $500. This alone makes the card worth getting in the first year. And if you’re not interested in keeping last year’s, you can get $100 for two airline fee refunds: once in this calendar year and once in the next calendar year before cancellation.

To be a goalkeeper. Last year I took advantage of a cash bonus by funding my Merrill Edge account (see above: “Who’s Got $100,000 Left Behind?”) and now I have Preferred Rewards Platinum Honors status with Bank of America. That means I get 3.5% cash back on travel and dining with the Premium Rewards card and 2.625% cash back elsewhere.

I will continue to use my Sapphire Reserve card to earn 3X Ultimate Rewards points for travel and dining, so if I keep this new card, it will be my go-to card. This would be the card to pull out when you can’t find 3X with another card. I used to use the 1.5X Freedom Unlimited card everywhere as my main card (see: FU Sapphire Reserve ) and then switched to the 2X Amex Blue Business Plus card everywhere (see: The new king of everyday spending: Amex Blue Business Plus ). Both cards are great for this purpose, but both charge foreign transaction fees, so I should try to avoid using them when traveling abroad. I love that the Bank of America Premium Rewards card has no foreign transaction fees, so it’s great to use both at home and away.

One thing I don’t like is the $95 annual fee. Yes, I should also be able to get $100 back a year by using the card strategically
